Giant Vs President

So friend of mine is looking to get her first bike since childhood and is looking at either a Giant Blvd or a President Classic, the cost works out the same sine the Giant comes with helmet, locks, and basket but hose would need to be bought separately for the President.

She's asked me to help her choose since I cycle, but I generally let the local bike mechanic worry about the technical bits :) so I was hoping you lovely people could help out.

Is there much of a difference between them? Would you go for one before the other? She'll be doing about 16km a day.

    Thanks in advance.

Got a link for the president? Google doesn't seem to have heard of it.

Also, beware the freebies. Baskets are pretty crappy for carrying stuff compared to panniers, locks are only worthwhile if they're decent quality u-locks (so what kind of lock is it), and helmets, well the less said about them the better. Also, how much are the actually charging for the either of them? I've found the boulevard on the giant website but with no price information I can't exactly say whether or not it's good value.

She's looking to get the President from Pretty Penny bikes. It's €190 with a front carrier (no basket, helmet or locks). The Giant would be €350 without accessories or €430 with 1 kryptonite and 1 cable lock (both retail at €45), helmet and lights. Both prices are including the Bike To Work scheme.

Eta: the Giant would include 2 free services in the first 6 months.

Isn't everyone a giant compared to our president?

I'd suggest the Giant Boulevard, or even the girl's version of the Giant Escape. The President looks a bit heavy for doing 16km per day.

Go with the giant. No comparison between the quality of the 2 brands. The wearable parts in the giant are so much better. Things like bottom brackets and headsets. Also if it comes to trading in in a few years the giant will have a trade in or resale value but the president won't be worth much
