Scratched Wii game disc... any solution?

    Hi,

Normally when the kids want to change a game on the wii they will ask me or my other half to change it for them so the kids dont go scratching the discs on the floor or while putting them into their box...

But unfortunately, the Super Mario Bros. disc has become scratched by one of my younger kids (who has special needs and took seconds to scratch the disc) and now it wont read.

Im sure i came across a thread on boards or another site about someone having the same problem as me, and they were told to return the disc and box to the manufacturer hub in the UK for a replacement and it worked.

Does anyone have any info on this? (fingers crossed!)... or failing that any other solution?

    Thanks.

You can get a disk repair tool, that effectively abrades the surface of the disk so that the difference between the normal surface of the disk and the scratch is minimised. These can cost €20-30, or more for automatic ones.

I think I remember some Gamestop stores offering a scratch repair service for a few euros too, might be worth checking out?

If you have the patience, you can fix scratched games and cds with toothpaste believe it or not.

Put a pea sized amount on something like a sock and rub over the scratch back and forth in from the middle of the disc out to the edge. Dont go around in circles.

The toothpaste has a mild abrasive which will remove the scratch enough for the disc to read again.

It'll work as long as it's not a massive deep gouge out of the disc. I've fixed loads doing this.

    Thanks for that o1s1n,

But that was the first thing i tried as its worked with cds for the car before... but unfortunately its scoured pretty bad around the outer edge.

Might check with the local gamestop so about that cd repair service... i suppose that return to manufacturer story must be a day dream so?
