Another one worth flagging, as it may not be noticed by non-regulars of the anime forum.

But Makoto Shinkai is coming to Ireland to premiere his superb new film Children Who Chase Voices from Deep Below on Monday week (2nd July). Shinkai is one of the two most inventive and promising voices in anime at the moment (Mamoru Hosoda being the other), and came to prominence after drawing his debut short Voices of a Distant Star entirely on his own. Children... is his third feature after Place Promised in Our Early Days and 5cm Per Second. It's probably his most satisfying yet. My review is here, for anyone interested.

Anyway, the premier is on in the Lighthouse, and should be a fantastic opportunity to hear the thoughts of one of the great hopes of anime. Particularly recommended for fans of Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind, as it has a vibe similar to that of epic Miyazaki.
