I do all of my clay/vermin shooting with a Beretta Semi Auto. I am thinking of buying a side by side for walked up and a small amount of driven game shooting. I have seen a mint Beretta s/s for sale second hand for the 1k mark. What do the experts think? Has anyone ever shot one?

I may be wrong but it a silver hawk that the sxs , if you use to shooting a semi , I'd be more inclined to go with an under and over I find it very difficult to shoot a sxs when I'm so use to the u/o .

Silver hawk is a fine gun all the same and if it a sxs you want it a great place to start

I have shot my Dad's Beretta 682 Gold E O/U and I don't like it. He has an old English s/s and I love it. It's light and easy to carry in the field and the tight chokes are great for high birds. I think you're right about the Silver Hawk, it's advertised as a Silver pigeon though. I might go see it this evening.

If its a 471 EL i'd break his arm for it!! There's lovely gold game birds and coloring on that model and has an English walnut stock.
I'd say its a 471 Silver hawk like what TriggerPL says. It definitely worth 1k if its has a 28" barrel with a single trigger and selector. If it has double trigger and shorter barrel is not worth the 1k. It can come with 24" barrels which is no good. Does it come up nicely did you check?

I went to see that gun last night. It wasn't half as nice as I thought it would be. Exactly as everyone else said, overpriced for the condition and it's not as clean as he's making out. I much preferred this one: http://www.sportsden.ie/guns/gun-showroom/shotguns/webley-and-scott-12g-side-by-side.html

Thats a nice gun, if you have your heart set on a silver hawk, lakelands have one for about a grand about a month ago and ballykeenhan sports have 2 , worth a spin to have a look at them.

I thought that gun in sports den was very very short.

I have a silver hawk on the way myself ,cost me a few bob too

The 26" barrels were too short for me. I like something with a bit of length to it. My Urika 2 has a 30" barrel.

I haven't got my heart set on a Silver Hawk at all, I just want a nice game gun. Did you order your Silver hawk new?

http://patrickcarleyfirearms.com/shotguns-for-sale-in-ireland/, the weatherby if you have the money.

It is second hand but nearly brand new 2400 euro, about 1200 off a new price.

Webley and Scott are a good make of side by side. Their English and do hold their value. The English do make the best side by sides in the world
