Hey guys! Absolutely raging that I didn't hear they had this Irish speaking scholarship scheme for accomidation till now. I know they said preference to applications before end of may, but if I sent one off say on monday, would I still have a chance of getting an interview? I know it's incredibly specific info, but any1 knows about anyone who did get in applying late, it might help me sleep better :P thanks

Definitely apply; in my year one of the girls got in with a ridiculously late application (she had a phone interview the day after her grad).

Good luck, it's a great scheme!

    *accommodation*

I'm sorry, you need to know.

I thought you had to have your place first in Trinity if you're attending TCD in first year D: I'm freaking out, can someone confirm this, or am I just insane?

**Edit** Think it'd be too late for me to apply? I'm a guy who is fluent in Irish.

No you should have applied already! I presume there is still time though, if last year is anything to go by as I said before!

I sent off the application today, I hope I get it :(

I've never quite got the point of paying grant to money to people who speak Irish already to "speak Irish in their day-to-day life". One would have thought this would be virtually a given with successful applicants. If their intention is to promote the Irish language on campus, I can think of better ways than targeting a priori Gaeilgeoirs.

Sorry for bumping, but I am livid. I know I sent my application in late in June, but I recently rang up the accommodation board of TCD at the end of August to find out whether or not they had even got my application. Turns out they didn't. An Post probably lost it because I had written the address in Irish. Now I have been turned down for the first round of halls and am getting worried about accommodation.

It's by no means your fault that the application got lost, and you're right to be angry, but nonetheless it's always worth bearing in mind that An Post have registered post for a reason: sometimes things get lost. Anything you can't afford to go missing, pay the extra fiver for - it really puts my mind at ease anyway.

You can get an enquiry form about the letter that was lost, but it's a lot easier if you just always use registered post.

It's handy to live in halls for first year, but it's not a disaster if you don't, there are plenty of closer and cheaper places. Don't worry too much!

I'm just kicking myself that I didn't write the address in English and register it. Anyhow, it's a lesson learned :o

It's far more likely that it got lost in Trinity than by An Post. Every postman in the country knows what "Baile Átha Cliath 2" means, and every postman in Dublin 2 knows what "Coláiste na Tríonóide" means.

A lot of people and organisations write addresses in Irish, and there isn't normally a problem. The worst you can expect is a delay of a day or two for obscure addresses they need to figure out. The address for Trinity is not obscure in the slightest.

I would bet quite a bit of money that it is in the Irish officer's office, in his "to do" pile or something!
