Hey, I met this guy out six months ago and we really hit it off. We met the week before I was due to go abroad for the year. He asked for my number and texted me the next day asking me to go to the cinema between last minute change of plans for him and me not really able to meet up because I was organising to go away we didn't meet up before I left.
Ever since then I cannot get this guy out of my mind. I've tried meeting other guys and to stop thinking about him but I can't. In a few weeks I'll be home for the month. I was thinking about texting him and letting him know I'll be home for a bit. I just wanted people's advice do they think it's a good idea? If so, when should I text him? Now, to give him advance warning or just before I come home? All advice appreciated!

Why not drop him a text saying you'll be home on X day and would he like to meet up for a coffee.
    Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I'd normally say text him but...

You say you'll be home for a month, how long will you be gone after that? Like are you often abroad for long spells?

Not to put a dampener on things, its just hard to see anything develop if you aren't around often and as you already seem to really like him it could end up hurting you and maybe him a bit.

I'm abroad for the year so i'll be gone for four months and then back for good. Yeah I get what you are saying about it being hard for things to develop. I just haven't found a guy since I've moved here that I've connected so well with compared to this guy.
I guess I just wanted to try meeting him and see where things go from there.

Oh if you'll only be gone away for four months and then back for good text him :) Sure four months is nothing if ye like each other ;)

I had a friend in the same position this year. She met a guy and then went abroad teaching English for a year. While she was away she kept referring to him as 'the one that got away'. She came home, met up with him and afterwards she was like...."wtf have I been bigging up this guy so much for". Basically, it was the 'what if' and 'what might have been' that took over her mind while she was away and when she actually met up with the guy she realised that the reality was very different.

I'm not saying that this is what will happen with you but I think meeting up with him and really seeing how you feel will be a good thing. If its not what you thought it would be then you can go back and be free of wondering what might have happened, for the last 4 months of your time abroad. My friend regretted being hung up on this guy because, when she looked back, she said she felt it held her back from really being able to meet someone else while she was away.

And if it does work out- you're only away for another 4 months so wayhay !!

I'm exactly like your friend! I keep thinking 'what if' and maybe something good could happen. I guess I'll just send the text and see if he responds at all.

Well I texted him three days ago and haven't heard anything since so I guess it's time to move on.
    Thanks for the advice!

Sorry things didn't work out OP.

As you no longer require advice on this issue, I'll lock the thread.

    All the very best.
