borrowed the neighbors sprayer and managed to clip a gate and put a quarter inch hole in one of the hoses going to the boom. could I stick a punchure repair patch on it? would it take the pressure? or do i have to go replacing the whole line?

there is that yellow Alfa Laval flex hose on some of the runs on my sprayer and has done hundreds of acres since. Expect it to disintegrate tomorrow

No you can't repair it with a puncture patch.

Try cutting out the damaged section and then join the two good ends with a hose barb joiner and two Worm Drive Hose Clips (Jubilee Clips).

Wrap it around the pipe like a puncture patch.where do you buy 3/4 inch johnnys anyway seeing as you think they exist?

If not too expensive, replace the hose, neighbour gave you a perfect sprayer, or ask him would he be ok with a joiner, you might want to borrow it again.

But tell him before he sees it

Joiner isnt an option because its right on the bend where the boom folds.

oh well its my own fault I'll just have to get a new hose

    Good advice...
Replace the hose and tell him you damaged it and replaced the section... shows you had respect for his machinery and you can hold your head up if asking to borrow again in the future.... sods law, isnt it !

Try and get a simulare colour hose to what is already there.... If all the hoses are black and you get a yellow replacement it'll constantly remind him that you damaged his sprayer and he'll be getting a rise off you for years about it.

I totally agree. If the neighbour was good enough to let you borrow his machinery, you should be giving it back to him on as good, if not better condition to how you got it.

I managed to bend the shaft on a neighbours hydraulic toplink. It wasn't feasible to fix it, would have cost €50 shy of a new one. It was a dear break. Cost me €150 to buy a new top link. When the neighbour seen what I'd done, he wouldn't hear but that he would go halves and gave me back €75.

Two years later and I've long forgotten about the €75 sting. I've a friendly neighbour that holds me in high esteem (as I him) and would lend me any bit of machinery he has.

Buy a new hose for the sprayer and a new nozzle. clean down the machine and grease the pto and pivot points on the boom. Bring back the machine in proper working order and with a clear conscience. Worth every penny mark my words.

I got a lend of a rather large machine of a guy I have never seen in my life. A friend of a friend, anyway long short I had the job 95% complete and told my man to finish up the last bit as I had to go to a funeral. My guy managed to damage the machine through doing the maggot. There were 10 flights out of 110 (1300e) and I wanted to replace the whole lot as I considered there serious ware on the rest of them. the owner wouldn't hear of it and said just replace the broken ones which I duly done and he was happy out. I gave a couple hundred quid for the lend of the machine and he said to come back anytime I want it again. There are some gentlemen out there

If I gave a lend of a machine to some guy and it came back with a condom holding it together, to say I wouldn't be impressed would be a huge understatement

You're all right. Its my fault i'll just take the hit. Was just thinking that if I could patch it It would probably end up a neater job than me rooting around to put a new hose on.

anyways old hose is off and I'll have the new one in the morning
