Marriage cert father deceased question

I read through some posts on here about fathers on marriage certs and that they may not always say deceased. I just wondered when, if a fathers name appears on a marriage cert, and it has his occupation could he could be deceased? Or would it the occupation be left blank?

I can offer a sample of one from my files: the deceased father's occupation is given.

Oh that's great thanks. I have one myself but they were a very mysterious and confusing family also it was 20 years after he died. so I was thinking maybe he wasn't dead after all. Which wouldnt have surprised me at all.

Yes, it did happen that the father could be dead. I don't think there was an option that said "if deceased, leave blank" so some people were very correct with their answer, even if he was dead.

The occupation is often given whether the father is living or dead - which can be very useful for verifying a name which is common. However, in my experience, 'deceased' is not always recorded, so haveing a name and occupation doesn't necessarily mean that the father was alive at the time.
