My dad still uses the old sky box- It has no recording facility.

    Will Sky ever replace these?

Once the 12 month contract is up the box is then yours/your dads and Sky wont voluntarily replace it. The options you have are to buy your own box (try Adverts.ie) or ring Sky and ask if they will give you a free upgrade (highly unlikely) or say that you will cancel the subscription and there may be some movement then.

Hold onto the old one if you do get a new one, As they are handy to have for Freeview.

OP, if you have an old Sky box, in order to record you need to get a Sky+ box - doesn't that mean the OP needs to get someone to put in a second cable from dish to box in order to record.

Sky are making a big pitch at the moment to get new customers. If you bargain with them you could get a discount but they might try to get you to subscribe to an additional package like HD, etc.

have a HD Box willing to Sell

why dont you cancel your Sky Contract.. wait out for 3-4 months you will get a letter in the door saying a welcome back gift of half price for 12 months, after the 12months cancel again and wait again for 3-4 months again..

being doing this for about 4 years now.

Full package Movies,Sports, etc all for 38 euros a month

Freeview is the proprietary Free to Air terrestrial system in the UK and Northern Ireland and is their equivelent of Ireland's Saorview. A sky box is of absolutely no use for Freeview.

You can however use a Sky box without a subscription to receive certain free to air satellite channels which are also available via "Freesat" which is a proprietary Free to Air satellite system in the UK which is available in the ROI through signal overspill and is received on the same satellite position of Astra 28 East which carrys the Sky Digital channels.

Freeview, Freesat, Sky = 3 very different platforms and systems.

Yes, I should have said Free channel's. The point I was trying to make is that older boxes are better for the free channels as you can reset the EPG to a UK setting without the card.

As already said ring Sky and haggle or buy an secondhand Sky+HD box and transfer your account over to it. If you don't complain Sky will happily take your money.

The possibilities are endless when you threaten to cancel with Sky

Alternatively cancel and then resign up for another 12 month contract under your name and get cash back from fatcheese

They replace mine a couple of weeks ago when I told them I'd cancel. Then that was dodge and they came back out and replaced the LMB
