    Hello

Looking to get a bit of advice on projectors.

Currently renting a apartment and just renewed the lease so looking to get a projector in. Room size is small, approx 14 feet.

I'll be playing a PS3 through it and a UPC box.

What size screen could I get? I was hoping to get a 120". How do u install them?

Next question, do u guys recommend a budget HD projector, basically not looking to spend too much because I only want it to last a yr or two max!

    thanks

How much are you looking to spend? Have you thought about sound? You'll need a screen, projector mount, HDMI,power cables etc.

You should be able to get at least 92" plus from 14 foot, depending on the projector.

Well I was hoping to get a bit of advice regarding which complete system people would recommend. I really need advice on which projector to buy and screen. I have considered a nice surround sound system for it.

The problem I'm having is that I'm only renting the apt so I can't be drilling holes into walls etc so I was wondering how these screens install to your ceiling/wall?

It's impossible to recommend anything without a budget!

    150 euro for screen
    300-500 for projector

You may struggle with that budget, but have a look at the Optoma projectors, they have a fairly decent budget range and you might be able to bag a bargain somewhere. Get in touch with Richersounds in Belfast, they stock a few Optoma projectors and if not I'm sure they could source one. They have a "Talk to" forum here.

The Optoma HD20 is a Full HD DLP projector and it's going for about £500 at the moment, IMO it's worth the extra few euros! You could use a white , light colured wall instead of a screen, while you save the extra to buy a proper screen.

There are a few 720p Optoma projectors that are cheaper but you should be looking at Full HD projectors....it is 2012 after all!!

thanks for the advice, appreciate it!

    2 quick questions

whats the quality like when projected onto a white wall?

when fitting the screen, do u have to drill into a wall/ceiling?

No problem, quality on a white wall is fine but unless the wall is perfectly flat and smooth you'll see every blemish, also when using a wall you will not have the image framed, with a screen it will have a black frame and it just looks better.

My screen is on a wall and I just had to use 2 screws for the screen to hang off. When you move just remove the 2 screws, slap on a bit of filler, sand aand then paint (optional;) and your sorted.

You would have to find a joist and screw into that. You could use threaded hooks if it was hanging from the ceiling too.

I sold my surround sound a few months ago so I just use 2 bookshelf speakers and an old Denon mini HIFI at the moment, does the job but not ideal obviously.

Do you have the dimensions of the room?, that will dictate what size screen you could fit.

false alarm, it looks like they only sell to corporate customers.

that is unless anyone's the owner of a corporation and would like to facilitate the purchase for me? :)

Knew it was too good to be true...
