You could buy a car for that price.

A fool and their money are easily parted.

And a car will keep costing money. a bike if looked after will be cheaper in the long run

Having read Gawd's comment first, I clicked through on the link expecting that someone was buying an €8,000 Italian show pony. Instead, I get a €600 bike with Sun Race shifters. I am disappoint.

Not that there's anything wrong with that either.

I don't think anyone was having a go at you at all!

The bike looks like a reasonable entry level road bike!

Merida are grand bikes. The spec is slightly misleading. It has a double up front but says it has 30 gears. That's not possible. At a guess it probably has 18 gears.

The spec on the website has the same inconsistency.

I don't know what the quality of sunrace stuff is like. Might be worth googling some reviews and some opinions.

Depends what you want out of bike, what will you be using it for and how often?
The quality of components is the bottom end of Shimano, who make the chains, sprockets, etc. Not sure of wheel quality.
You'd buy a lovely second hand bike for that money.
Euro for euro for the casual cyclist, hybrids offer the best value.
Hard to get decent "racer" for under 800-900, some lads might say 2,000 some even higher!
Hope this helps, try donedeal etc for 2nd hand bikes

Firstly there is nothing wrong with this bike as a starter bike and I hope you come to enjoy cycling as much as I have over the last four years. My only proplem since i started cycling is how some people on expensive bikes look down there noses at people who own cheaper bikes, as we have seen from a previous message (cycling snobs).
Whether a person is on a bike worth 5 grand or 500 euro it does not better as long as they enjoy cycling. All the best with what ever bike you pick.

I think you are reading something which hasn't been said or insinuated.

In the 5 years I've been riding my current run of the mill alu bike I've never once felt looked down upon. I don't know where or when all this snobbery is happening. Imagined I suspect.
