Hi, have a question regarding USC overcharge

Ive made redundant in April straight after 6 month of maternity leave at that time the company which is UK based was in liquidation and they did not have a clue about Irish taxation rules.

So what they did is to put redundancy payment and my last salary into the payslip and calculate from the whole amount USC, for the same time Tax i think, but not sure, was charged from only salary amount.

In payslip they did not separate redundancy payment and name it as "other payment".

at that moment only evidence of redundancy i have in their letter and no p45 have been sent yet to me.

I called today to the same company which is under new management and they admit the mistake but said that they cant refund USC and i have to go to Tax Office.

My question is does tax office will be able to refund USC to me based on above information and hopefully correctly filled P45.

At that moment I am not working and getting social payments.

    Thank You

Get a letter from your employers detailing dates worked start to finish of employment and how much the redundancy was for and they will be able to calculate the refund out of that.

They really shouldn't have taxed your redundancy. It's plain stupidity and laziness.

Friend of mine paid tax on his redundancy and he claimed top slicing relief the following year .- Got back most of the tax he paid .
