My PS3 got the YLOD two weeks ago. After toying around with the idea of fixing it myself and nearly completely taken it apart, I've decided not to bother. I've been looking on Adverts for either someone to fix it, or a new PS3.

I've come across a PS3 that I can get for cheap, very cheap. Thing is it has no power cable and the USB slots do not work. Power cable is no problem as I have one from my PS3.

My only question is whether I can charge my PS3 controller by connecting it to my laptop. Google tells me yes, but I just want to make sure. I tried it there and the lights on the controller stay blinking red. I'm not sure if this means it is charging or not? Wondering if anyone can confirm before I go ahead and purchase the PS3.

yes it will charge from a PC. I used to do this all the time when I used the PC drivers for ps3 joypads.

Cheers! Just in-case I've missed anything, can anyone see any issues that could arise or would you agree that I'm covered and should by the PS3?

Don't have much money so just trying to make sure.

Just buy a new one... I two got the YLOD, Took it apart float the GPU and the CPU, Cleaned it up put it back only for it to last 2 days...

how old is it, theirs a thread about small claims court people taken their PS3 to the small Claims and wining at lest you get some money back for a new one,

It will cost you 160 euros up to get your cheap Re-floated and they cant even give you a 6month guarantee to fix this problem that it will last.

you will need to Re-ball the CPU & GPU which would cost alot of money to do.

i have a PS3 by my pc and a load of USB cable coming from some higher current ports that do the job for my devises, can even play the PS3 with it plugged into the PC as long as sync first to the PS3.

My PS3 is a launch day 60GB. It got YLOD 2 years ago and I got it fixed. Happy enough that it lasted 2 years.

Actually, that could be a problem? Don't you need to connect the PS3 and controller the first time to sync them?

I charged my controller using my laptop and at some point the controller paired with my laptop and would no longer work with the ps3. Had to plug it into the ps3 to pair it back to it again.

Actually , something similar happened to me , it works fine once you plug it back into the ps3 but you cant do that so i dunno

Quick Question how are you going to get your Controller to sync to the new ps3 without using the usb ports

Yeah, figured that out a few posts up. Nothing I can do about that so I'll just have to pass on this PS3.
