Hey,I am coming close to my driving test in 20 days, and few things I am left with a bit confused:

    1) Need help with traffic lights, I am bit confused over those that have like 2 sets of traffic lights,
say there is 2 lanes, left one goes straight and right one goes to the right.
    And traffic light shows this:

does it mean left lane can proceed and right lane must wait?

    2) Will I loose marks if I am driving, and there is huge distance between me and guy behind, and I am just moving off from traffic lights, and I see 1 guy waiting to turn,so will I loose marks if I let the guy through?

    3) I am in habit of when going fast and I see traffic ahead turning red, I start to gently and slowly push brakes like 50 metres before so that stop is very smooth without even the slightest push force, will I loose marks for that?

    4) If at red, I am holding brakes and clutch while I am like 4th from being first to traffic light, will I loose marks?

    5) Will engine overreving cause me to loose marks? (I just usually tend to avoid changing gear while in turn on traffic lights)

    6) Will I loose marks if I start to move off the lights, I am holding 1 hand on wheel and 1 on gear as I know I have to switch, will that cause me to loose marks?

    7) If I am driving fast but within speed limit, and like 15 metres from traffic light it switches to yellow and I drive through, will I loose marks?

    Thanks.

    1. Left lane can proceed. Right lane must wait at the stop line, and not enter the junction until the right hand set of lights turn green.

    2. Unsure of what you mean.

    3. Seems fine, although you should ask your instructor, and show him what you are doing. It's hard to gauge without seeing it.

    4. Will you lose marks? I'm not sure, but I would pop on the handbrake and put the car in neutral. Gives you a chance to take a break. Also you should be more than able to anticipate the change in lights even when 4 cars back.

    5. Depends what you mean by "over reving", I would always rather to get as quickly as possible into second. There is no reason to scream around a corner in first gear. I would imagine this would incur a fault.

    6. Your ready position should be with 2 hands on the wheel, and then move to change gear. Even if this will be in a matter of seconds.

    7. Impossible to judge just reading your post. I would think that you would have plenty of time to stop in that situation. However you should ask your instructor, I'm never good at judging distances when reading posts.

Just remember that the amber light means stop unless it is unsafe to do so.
