Dublin Bus Ticket didn't scan correctly?

    This has been on my mind for a while now and I just wanted clarification;

    I have a 30 day student rambler bus ticket and a valid student card. An inspector got on the bus and scanned my ticket, which had a good 15-20 days left on it. He then told me that I hadn't scanned the ticket as I got on the bus, essentially saying I'd gotten on without paying! After a minute or so of me insisting I had, he shrugged it off saying that maybe it hadn't read properly when I scanned it.

    The whole way through I couldn't tell if he was having a laugh or was serious. When I got on the bus the machine had given me the green light and made the loud beep signalling that the ticket had scanned fine. Is it possible that the ticket hadn't read correctly or was the inspector literally just having a laugh? He was perfectly polite to me but it's made me nervous now.

    Moral of the story; it pays to have your student card with you :)

    Is it possible that you got a tone, but it was an error tone?

    It's entirely possible the Inspectors Hand-Held reader was defective and perhaps he was referring to It ??

    I suppose it is possible, though I'm always a bit fearful of my card being ruined in the rain or whatever and pay a lot of attention to the scanner as I get on. If I were a fan of betting I'd put good money on it not having been an error tone!

    Not trying to be smart, just making an observation. If you pay a lot of attention how come you dont know exactly how many days are left on the ticket?

    Liger; I pay a lot of attention with regards to making sure I have a bus ticket that's still valid and making sure it scans correctly when I get on. With regards to the amount of days left this incident happened around three weeks ago and I can't recall whether it was specifically 17 days or 19 days left on the ticket. I think the important thing is that the ticket was in no way nearly expired.
