Not sure if this is the right place, but do you reckon this squashed critter is a bed bug?

Looks like it to me. Encountered plenty of them in a delightful hostel in Rome. I remember them having quite a shiny surface like that little guy.

Apparently it's a dog flea (thanks Rentokil!).

Bed bugs are circular, flat and the size of a finger nail (mainly abdomen) and paper thin. Yer photo looks like a flea alright but I could not tell if it was sideways on or squashed so was not sure from the photo. Fleas are flattened from side to side and you usually see them lying on their sides. Dog fleas used to be very common in Ireland but flea collars have made them rare with well looked after domesticated dogs.
