I'm flying on an Embraer 190 tomorrow from Amsterdam to Bologna (Cork to AMS then on to Bologna) and I'm looking forward to it. It seems that for most shorthaul stuff these days it's all 737s or A320s and it's pretty boring when you compare now to the 1970s even when you could be on an L-1011 or MD-11 etc etc (long haul aircraft granted!).

Same Embraer 190 on thw way back from Bologna to AMS and the A320 of Aer Lingus then to get to Cork. Only a 50 minute connection time but when I bought the ticket the KLM site said that was fine...hope it will be!

Anyway looking forward to having my arse on a seat different from the usual on the AMS to Bologna flight!

You might get to *see* an MD-11 in AMS, one of the few places you will see them doing passenger ops. Not going to fly it that distance though.

I flew aer lingus from Dub - Ams and saw plenty of MD-11's while wandering between my connection which were in the same general area. 777's and 747's too. Lots of shopping and restaraunts to chose from too.

However, I got a bit of a shock when we landed and saw how far away the ATC tower was. I knew it would be a long taxi but I didnt think it would be that far! Was only about 15 - 20 mins taxiing I think.

Oh I know I won't be on an MD-11 but it would be nice to see one in person anyway. I actually think they look quite nice - why is it that KLM still run them? Finnair do as well I think or SAS.

What do you think of the 50 minute connection Cocoshovel?

Finnair don't (they got rid of theirs quite a while back). SAS certainly don't.

KLM - it works for them, the routes they use them on (range and passenger numbers) and I'd imagine by now they are on some pretty good rates for them as the lessors won't get much call for them elsewhere!

You should be fine, but you might want to hurry a bit between flights depending on how far away the gate is.
You can print your ticket between flights at one of the machines which are a few minute walk after you disembarque the plane. Unless of course you already have your connection ticket printed.

Polderbaan runway possibly - its practically in a different city! (http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=217899)

I'll be flying on an MD-11 from AMS next Friday :D That's if Aerlingus managers to get us there on time to make the connection!

Incidentally, you wouldn't have been able to fly on an MD-11 in the 70s as it would take another 20 years or so for them to be introduced. They started only in 1990. I know I'm being pedantic. You could, however, fly on their predecessor DC10.

Well i made the flights I needed to make! The KLM Cityhopper Embraer 190 is a fantastic aircraft with a 2+2 seat layout that is extra comfy and its quite a smooth flyer too!

Hey Fabio are you sure it'll be the Embraer?
Ive seen KLM operate the Fokker 100 in Bologna as well.

If it was 2+2 it was Embraer.

Fokker 100 is 3 + 2. Fantastic plane too, I've flown on it at least 20 times, loved it!

Yep twas the Embraer alright. They seem to be phasing out the Fokkers which is unfortunate.
