...long story short, I, for my sins, am inclined to keep the typewriter's in the P.S. busy. If, for no other reason, it gives them something to do.

In a recent missive, via the EU, I made a number of......er...........points.

Today I got a reply, via Belgium, from the Minister concerned, here, and I reproduce a section, verbatim.........whilst we all KNOW this to be the case, it's interesting to see a Minister actually acknowledge it. That is, that the extortionate rates of Motor tax are not used for motoring-related items, whether that be safety, maintenance, new roads, parking, traffic management.

"The current framework agreed by Government provides that the operational costs of providing domestic water services are paid directly by the exchequer through the Local Government Fund. The Local Government Fund (LGF) is a special central fund which was established in 1999 under the Local Government Act 1998. It is financed by the full proceeds of motor tax contributions and an Exchequer payment.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

So basically we're going to be paying for water AGAIN with the water metres?

Motor tax revenue was for local authorities and councils directly for a while. Then I think the Govt cut some other funding to Local Authorities. This shortfall is then to be made up with the household charge, water meters etc.

    Something like that.

Motor tax goes to general local governmment coffers and pays for everything. That's common knowledge is'nt it? They don't claim otherwise.

The motor tax debate has been done loads of times on here with eople and their opinions that they shouldnt have to pay "road tax" what with the state of the roads and all
