"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected booy device and press a key" - I just turned my new comp on for the first time and I get this message. I've no Windows pre-installed on it so I'm guessing this is the problem? What do I do?! :(

Is this a PC you built yourself or did you buy it fully built?
Have you installed any operating system or was it sold to you with an operating system installed?

It looks like there is no operating system installed (however it could be something else). Solution, install operating system.

You need something to boot into ie. an operating system.

So just get a version of windows and insert and install it.

Do you have a copy of an operating system you can install?

I wouldn't really call that an error tbh, it just means you need to stick in your Windows CD and order your computer to boot from it in the Boot menu or BIOS.

Hi guys, it's a custom PC but I didn't receive any Windows OS with it.

Obviously I can't even download something from the net...I'll definitely need a CD I'm assuming?! :(

Custom as you built it yourself? Or custom as in someone built it for you?
Did you get a DVD with windows on it?
Microsoft Windows operating systems cost money.
If you didn't want to pony up another 70-200 euro on windows (do a Google for sellers) you can download something like Ubuntu and burn it to DVD or USB.

First make sure there isn't a memory stick plugged in or a non-OS CD in the drive.
If there really is no OS, ask whoever built it if they can lend you a CD.

ITS a lot easier ,to go to a netcafe ,and download image file, iso and burn the image to a cdr ,using imgburn or similar program,
than get into setting up linux to boot from a usb stick.
Burn 2 images ,just in case disc gets scratched,
Make sure theres a program to burn image iso files on the pc,
    or install IMGburn free program.
    download x86 32bit version ,650meg approx,
    see http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=31
,it has music player, web browser firefox built in.And basic movie video player.

    Either version will work.
How much RAM is in the PC?

Then 64 bit would be most beneficial.

32bit version only acesses about, 3.5 gig ram, 64bit will acess all the ram 8gig.
    32bit version fits on 1cdr ,650meg approx,
64bit will fit on a dvd r disc.
    i got a brand new hp, pc ,2gig ram,in 2011. i found the 32bit version ran faster ,
probably cos i have only 2gig ram.
i find the older version , 2010, of mint linux, much faster ,easier to use than the latest release.
if you are in a hurry get the cd version, boot from cd, on the desktop,
    theres a shortcut,
click to install mint os to your harddisk.
    google mint linux install faq.
you can always install the dvd version at a later date.over the old 32bit version.
you , just burn the image file iso to a cd or dvd,
use burn image ,from imgburn or similar program.
