I'm going to a wedding on Friday.
She's an old secondary school friend. I've met her fiance twice.
I'm not working at the moment (they don't know that) so I can't buy something really expensive.

I'm going on my own. Instead of putting €80-100 in a card, I would like to buy something but have no clue what to get. It's my first wedding to go to as a guest.

I don't want to buy the cliche wine glasses or waterford crystal.
Plus they have been living in a house for the last five years!

If there was something I could get that would look more expensive (I'm sorry if that sounds horrible) I would love to buy it.. I was thinking perhaps the gift section in TK MAX or something.

Please no abuse from people or people telling me I should tell them I'm not working (It's not an option!!!!)

    Thanks a million.

What about a new bridge salt and pepper set?

Newbridge also have a lovely carving set - we bought it for my cousins wedding.

I don't think you can go wrong with towels or bed linen, but you would need to know if they have a double or king size bed.
When I moved house, I was thrilled to get good towels and bath sheets!

I think most people getting married these days understand that many of their guests will be on hard times. I'd personally go with just sticking whatever cash you can afford into a card though: most wedding gifts are awful tat so unless you know the bride and groom extremely well, you're more than likely going to misjudge their taste and end up buying them something that'll just clutter up their home.

go to your local art center or if any of the local artists have websites in your area. See if you can get a painting at an affordable price.

It's a nice gift to get especially if its done by a local artist, unlike a print it's unique, one of a kind. Your budget is a bit low but you'll never know until you do the research.

For me, youve actually given yourself the answer. TKmaxx, I recommend the one in blanchardstown if you can get there. Quality cheap stuff in there upstairs. And lots of it.

Cast iron cookwear, paintings, books. I got this
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Larousse-Gastronomique-Hamlyn/dp/0600620425/ref=pd_cp_b_0
for 15e in there a few weeks ago.

Kind of thing youd never buy for yourself.
