Recently discovered Google trends, a part of Google that tells you what people are searching for and where they are, and what's the first thing I looked for?

Well no I don’t get what gay porn and Catholicism have got to do with one another? I blame them for quite a lot but for gay porn searches?

ah yeah, the mods deleted it this morning i'd say to save some embarrassing blushes all round... :D

oh speaking of straight lads, lol, i'd say half the reason why "gay porn" is such a popular search term in ireland is because there's still a lot of people who aren't as comfortable with being open about their sexuality as opposed say to being able to be more openly gay in england or some parts of the states. we're only a tiny tiny country, so not a huge market for any kind of porn really... :(

Must be it;) I'd say my drunken speech on prostate stimulation will only contribute to the figures as well. I can imagine a lot of confused straight guys looking that sh/t up:D

A gap in the market maybe? I'm 18 now and have nothing better to do, so... :P

    No, it doesn't at all

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,293 ✭✭✭1ZRed

I've been messing around for a bit typing in all I can think of (not that much considering I'm so innocent) but we are into some kinky sh/t besides gay porn!

Edit, This is a great way to test the market for what's trending. It's really going to help my up incoming "project"! And with gay porn on the rise, I can't think of a better career direction:p

Now I have to think up a fitting porn name....

Ireland on the west of Europe
I dunno, are international European and American searches routed through here?

Ireland is Google European HQ after all

How does a tiny country come second in the world unless all the searches go through Ireland
4.7 million people looked up more then 47 million people in Spain? I don't think so

Google European HQ in Dublin involved in the report so of course what's reported in Ireland gets credited to Ireland

    Pure lies

For the "gay porn" searches, it seems that Maynooth and Wexford are the main culprits for gay porn searches. It might be worth noting that the biggest Catholic Seminary in the country is in Maynooth. There are loads of rural towns on the list well ahead of Dublin. Dublin is only in eighth place. It explains a lot as there isn't much of a gay scene in rural Ireland.

    http://www.google.ie/trends/?q=porn&date=all&geo=irl&ctab=0&sort=0&sa=N

Also, interestingly enough, the primary languages used in the searches in Ireland were English and Polish. The Polish searches were 1 third that of the English searches. Now, I don't know if this means that the Polish gay population here is one third that of the Irish gay population, but it's food for thought; maybe it has something to do with the fact that most Poles come from conservative Catholic backgrounds also.

As for the "porn" search on its own, Wexford and Maynooth come out on top again, with Dublin in seventh place. In Wexford and Kilkenny, almost half of the searches were in Polish. In Sligo, Westmeath, Waterford and Limerick over half of the "porn" searches were in Polish. I don't want to come to any conclusions by this but it seems that Poles (small as there numbers here are) are disproportionate horny in comparison with the rest of the population.

Yeah, a town of 12,000 people and you pick the seminary with 90 people studying for the priesthood

Clearly those 90 and the permanent staff are responsible

And you leave out NUI Maynooth with over 6,000 undergraduates and postgraduates

Worth noting? Under 200 hundred people?

I think 90 sexually repressed gay seminarians (or 45, apparently half off all new seminarians are gay) would be responsible for most of these porn searches.

    45 out of 12,000?

LGBT forum, where people post threads about equality and then make assumptions about 90 people in a seminary and not 6,000 young people in a university or the other 6,000 residents. Nope, it's worth noting it's the seminary.....

Would have thought this would be the last forum for assumptions and snap judgements

I know a few seminarians (around my own age and all) and Jesus Christ are they closeted. Probably the most sexual repressed people I've ever come across, just the way they act. I'd put a bet that they spend half their time on porn sites instead of praying. They'd easily take up most of the porn traffic out of that 12,000.

    Yeah - so what

I'm not sure what religion has to do with this thread at all

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Absolutely nothing but the LGBT forum has become a great place to slag the Catholic Church lately.

Not about religion but the trends results could be something to do with the sexually repressed Catholic mentality of many men in Ireland that still persists to this day.

Why are we assuming that all these searches are done by men? Watching gay porn has become something of a niche within certain female circles, both gay and straight...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,629 ✭✭✭Hunchback

does anyone know how these figures are reached? like, is it total number of searches divided by total number of population?

if that were the case, we could be number one!!

    i like that :)

Well yes, but I'd bet money that the vast majority of those who're watching gay porn being men.

While the seminary may contribute something; the state-owned university's reputation as "Gaynooth" is probably more major.
