Car Storage- Not A Classic Car!

    Folks,

Could someone please help me? I'm heading off in a couple of days to spend a few months abroad and as I haven't been able to sell my car, I've decided to store it. Which is easier said than done- I'm having a hard time finding places that offer secure storage.

I'm based in Bray, so around that area would be good, or somewhere near the airport. I've tentatively booked one place near Ballymount, a self-storage facility that has a few car parking spaces in a gate area with CCTV @ approx €50 per month and no insurance cover on their side (I'll keep it covered with my existing fully comp policy anyway). Thing is, it seems to be sort of an after-thought for them and I'm not crazy about it. Maybe its the best I can hope for? There are a few cars there already and a campervan but nothing has a cover over it.

It's only for three months... will it really make much of a difference if its stored indoors or out? I've invested in a good cover- waterproof, UV-proof, triple-layered etc. The area is a bit smelly too, beside a recycling place. Will the cover help keep out any smells?!

So I guess a few questions:

    1) good, secure facility that someone can recommend
    2) reasonably priced
    3) do I need a cover or will it just draw attention
    4) are there any basic preparations I should carry out before locking up

I'm a girl... but sort of know what I'm doing when it comes to my car. It's a Volvo S60 and I'm quite fond of it and since I've held off on selling, I would like to have it for a few years yet.

    Thanks :)

If you have a driveway to store it in, I'd be of the idea to keep it under a cover and store it there. Save you money and if its in your parents place (or spouse's or whatever) you could get them to bring it out once every two weeks to keep it running etc.

Sorry I can't be of more help!

not from Dublin, but had a look@your Q..

Do you live in a house with car on drive or is it @ apartment underground etc.? I think having your car under a plastic cover will draw a lot of attention to it? or if you park on a driveway and is covered up it will tell everyone your away.

What i would do is just leave and park it exactly the way you do when you come home from work etc..Then it will look no different to suspecting thieves etc. If for example you always come home and drive right up to the front door with front to the door, and then you head off for 3 months with the car reversed and left there it will look obv.

Perhaps if you bought the car off a dealer, they wouldnt mind if you left it out the back?

    Thanks guys,

I'm actually going to my parents in Canada for the summer and leaving my rented house. I'll be looking for somewhere new when I'm back so no driveway to use while I'm away and no family here to blag a space off! That said, I may be cheeky and ask the landlord... you never know, for a few quid and there is a spare space knocking about here. And it is gated and people do know my car. I've just thought of asking my friends if someone has a space and wouldn't mind taking it for a spin once a fortnight or so, but I doubt that's a runner either :(

Its the logistics of it now- I have to get my bags to the airport hotel, then store the car, then taxi back to the hotel, or the Air Coach if I'm near the route.

Just spotted an ad for a facility near Ashbourne "Dublin Self Storage" who have indoor car storage from €12 per week. They can also do pick-up, which could be useful, but I don't know. I like to see these places first and time is short- needs to be stored by Wednesday evening.
