Im looking to build a bike from the Frame up..

Should i go down this route,, it will take me about 2 years to get the money and get the stuff as i go along,

Or would it be better to update my Bike as i go along ? i have a Cube HPA 2011 edition.

are Dolan bike frames good ? i heard some people are having problems with the company.

Don't know about their road frames, but their track frames are great and are recommended for the price.

The road frames are well built designed and have a good reputation. Esp good for Irish road surfaces.....

I have a Dolan Hercules. Over four years old at this stage.

As RobFowl stated it is especially suited to Irish roads. Comfortable, forgiving (flexible). I weigh 90kg and have cycled it over some of the worst roads that this country has in all sorts of crap weather.
Not the lightest frame or the stiffest, but it works for me and I would have no hesitation in recommending one.

I had a hercules. It was a nice frame that fitted me well. It wasn't the stiffest frame but this isn't necessarily always a bad thing. A few things worth mentioning,

    - White is a terrible colour to try keep clean. Also marks and scratches show up much easier.

    - i had to replace the original Alpina seatpost, seatpost clamp, and headset.

    - Each time a part broke i tried contacting them (by email, twitter, facebook etc.) but received no reply. I wasn't looking for any freebies, but merely to replace the broken part with a new identical part. They are very active on some sites when it comes to promoting their business, but not so good when their customers are having problems.

    - i know of a couple of others who had issues with the dropouts cracking.

So overall it was a nice bike, but i probably won't buy another Dolan.

I did hear they have very poor after care same goes with the cube,

As for bike frames what would be the best in a price range and with good after care that if the frame did break then they will fix it with no hassle

What sort of aftercare are you looking for? If it's a decent enough bike, your LBS should be able to help with any maintenance you cannot do yourself

Well if the frame breaks at no fault of your own that it was a poor frame that your not fighting with them to get it fixed

Am I missing something here? What are the chances of a modern frame breaking as a result of poor workmanship? I know some of the old Cervelos had issues in BB area, but they's sorted that out now. I would have thought the vast majority of frames that do fail are as a result of accidents

Are there any particular examples of faulty Dolan frames you are aware of?

No i am not aware of particular faults that is based on the Dolan frames, just only wondering that if something did go wrong with a frame would they look after you, Cube i heard are not really friendly to deal with in that department.

If you worried about after sale service, try sourcing it from a lbs or a web store, that way you'll be able to deal with them as opposed to buying it direct and having to go straight to Dolan
