    Hi all

I have a problem that has developed over the last couple of weeks. On the desktop the PC is idle, and that message pop ups "Windows has detected that your PC performance is slow" - I have no idea what caused the development of this message.

It seems to want to disable "Aero" all the time and it's wrecking my head because I don't have a slouch of a rig.

    CM Storm Scout
    MSI P55-G65
    LG Optical Drive
    Samsung HD103SJ 1TB *2
    Intel Core i5 750
    Kingston 2x2GB DDR3 533MHz i5 Memory Module CL7*2 (Added 1 x 2GB PNY PC3 10700H 667MHz module ) TOTAL 6GB MEMORY
    Scythe Heatsink
    Radeon HD 4670.
    CORSAIR 650w PSU

Any ideas on this one folks?

Did you check for viruses? Malwarebytes is pretty good and if you feel there is something more sinister head over to the Virus removal forum and they will sort you out.

Did you have a look at your task manager to see if all your resources are been used up?

Did you recently install any new applications?

Check what programs are running, something must be hogging all the resources, that or you have a faulty bit of hardware.

Try hit control alt delete and select task manage under processes sort them by CPU first and see if there is anything there drinking up resources, next sort by memory and see whats there..

if you are unsure post them here and I can take a look.

    Cheers folks

running the malware program seems to have remedied the situation.

I will also keep an eye on the task manager in the future. just to confirm when I sort them via CPU what am I looking for exactly?

    Many thanks for your help

If your not running any programmes then all your looking for is basically any item in that list that is showing a fairly high cpu number.

Your web browser if running and broadband will probably be there and probably the other items are all showing 00 cpu usage.

Ignore the system idle process as this is usually fairly high anyway 70+

Look for anything else that you don't recognise that might be slowing your cpu especially if a high number.

    Thanks everyone

One final thing. One of my HD just for storage and stuff but when I access it, it seems to always lag and "spin up" everytime I access it but not with other drives ie a cheap external drive is "always on" and gets the info instantly.

Any ideas what could be causing this lag?

    Thanks
    John

Try increase time when HDD power off:

Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings --> change advanced settings --> HArd disk
