Recording live sports on Sky+

    Hi

Has anyone figured out a foolproof way of ensuring you don't miss the end of a sporting event that you are watching on Sky+?

I was watching the US Open last Saturday, but as it didn't finish until 3 a.m., I went to bed and recorded the last couple of hours. The golf didn't actually finish until around 3:30 a.m. so I missed the finish.

Last night, I went to bed early so that I could get up early this morning and watch the golf before hearing the result. In order to ensure that I would not miss the finish, I recorded both the golf and the program that was on immediately after it.

I got up at 6 this morning to watch it and, sure enough, the main program finished with four players still out on the course and the result still in doubt. I switched over to the second program I had recorded to find that it started 45 minutes late and did not start recording until 3:45. However, the first program finished recording at 3 as scheduled!

What a shower of muppets! I tried calling them today and got put through the usual call centre nightmare of having to listen to interminable options, none of which seemed to be the one I needed and I eventually hung up after disappearing into a black hole for around 60 seconds.

    All suggestions gratefully received.

Sky+ the program as per usual then manually record the time afterwards?

Yes in services go to manual recording and key in the times you want to record.

Thanks folks. I had forgotten you could do a manual recording. I'll do that the next time and will hope they don't switch channels when it runs over.

I always manually record the golf in two hour segments and allow an overrun of one hour (for play-offs etc). The only disadvantage is having to enter the pin everytime I decide to jump forward. My pin is 1111 so it's not too much of an imposition.

My old man takes a simpler approach and just records the next program (or 2) in the planner.

BTW The golf is repeated several times today and tonight.

    Thanks Eirman

I think I'll follow your approach. Unfortunately, using your father's approach did not work for me last night, as outlined above.

I know the golf is repeated, but I wanted to see it 'as live' without knowing the result.

    Cheers
