Newbie concerned about fit

    Hi,

It's been a long time since I've done any cycling, so before settling on my new bike (a Trek FX 7.3, 17.5" frame) I got some advice from friends of mine who cycle, some shop recommendations, and all that stuff. And since it was on in work, I used the BTW scheme to pay for it (figured I might as well!).

I've been hearing so much about how important the fit on a bike is, and I'm a bit worried that the shop I went to didn't seem to pay that much attention to the fit. I went to 2wheels in Sandymount, and they pretty much sent me out to give it a cycle, asked what I thought, and that was that. Now I'm just a bit worried that the frame size might not be right, and I don't know if they'll do some sort of fitting when I go to pick up the bike. I do have periodic problems with my knee so I just don't want to get this wrong and end up with a lovely bike that I'm too hurt to cycle :(

(Re: frame size, as above, it's the 17.5" frame which felt fine, but then, what do I know?! I'm about 5' 3", not overly blessed in the height or leg length department - the first bike they sent me out on, I had to come back and get them to lower the saddle as I couldn't reach!)

Am I just being overly worried here?

I'd imagine they sent you out for a spin to make sure the frame size fitted you. You will probably be getting a different bike once the paper work us complete and sent off so they will fit the actual bike once you go to collect it. No point adjusting anything on a bike that's not actually yours. Just make sure when you collect the bike they adjust the saddle height and handle bars rtc etc to suit your size/dimensions.

Thanks for the reply, feel a bit less worried now. I'll make sure they adjust the saddle and handlebars when I get it, and hopefully all will be well. Really looking forward to getting my bike now!

7.3 FX or 7.3 FX WSD?

Sorry to put doubts in your mind.
From looking at them there doesn't seem to be much difference except a more sloping top tube and a woman specific saddle. (Guessing you're female? )

Wasn't the women's one, just the regular one (but I am female, as you guessed). Might not be an issue now though, given the new thread I'm about to post :(
