Which Van?

I'm thinking of getting a van. I'm looking for something that I'll be able to carry surfboards, kayaks and other gear around in. Conversion to a very basic camper might be considered down the line sometime.

My budget is about €2000 but I could stretch a bit.
Engine size would be a factor too in order to keep the insurance low.
I've been looking at the VW Transporter T4 or the Toyota Hiace. Maybe an '02 or '03.

Any recommendations, advice or anything would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Toyota Hiace.

    Indestructable machines.

For €1500-2000 you get a good, clean LWB 2.4D. It's not the newer D4D engine but they are super reliable, just change the oil and filter regularly. Easy to sell on afterwards and good resale means little depreciation.

Get the LWB if you can, they are a lot easier to sell on.
