Running from 16 to 24 June

There have been one or two threads mentioning specific threads, but I thought I'd put a specific one up for posters to detail any events they are aware of or looking to promote

    Bike Week website here

There's also an article in today's Times There's never been a better time to get on a bike

    bikes-front.jpg

Badly worn helmets bug me. Mostly its people wearing a helment way back on their head with their forehead totally exposed.

Anyway, that shots on the front page of the bike week site and has the kid on the right with the helmet on backwards and possibly not done up.

Perhaps I'm being a bit picky, but thats not great in my book.

EDIT: Fired em off an email

Not picky as all I would say, intention is to promote the use of bikes and by implication ,bike safety (clearly the photo contradicts the message).

But I can be a pedanic twat at times :p

You spend ages explaining to people how you don't get that wet cycling........it's just a myth.......sure it's rare enough we get rain all day........the stats......etc

.....then they publish a photo like this to reinforce every potential cyclists idea that you get wet cycling:rolleyes:

Apart from that, it seems to be better promoted this year.

Anyone going on the Wednesday lunchtime spin in Dublin?

I turned up at the Leopardstown race course at about 3:45 on Saturday with my son. The advertised event (on the Bike Week PDF) was the "Junior Cycle Challenge" which mentions "Laps of 2 mile racecourse route". Sounded like fun.

The event was scheduled to run from 2 - 4 on the day. We turned up with only 15 minutes to spare but I thought this would be enough to get a lap (or even 2) in.

But there was nobody there

There was a guy there who was sporting a name badge - he worked in the racecourse itself - and I asked him. He didn't know about it but kindly rang reception for me to see what was going on. They knew nothing about it either ...

@route66: that's a poor show. Have you been in contact with the Council? Or perhaps a Boardsie with Orwell connections can shed some light as the club seems to have been co-organisers/promoters.

I'm hoping to go, though the start time of 12:45 could be a bit tight. Let's hope the weather is better than some of the previous years- in the past, it's almost as if the weather gods have held back their wrath until Bike To Work Day. Divils.

Other than that, there's a potentially interesting conference on Friday organised by the Dublin Cycling Campaign that I might head along to.

Did anyone go to the Fade Street Yestival on Saturday?

First I've heard of it, and Orwell are good about publishing their events - their website, here, Facebook, etc. I've dropped the club sec an email, but maybe Vladimir Kurtains might know more offhand?

Naw - didn't bother and went for a nice fast spin around the neighbourhood with the son instead - he's a lot faster than me

Anyway, I double-checked the PDF just to make sure I wasn't having a doh! moment. I'm not - click on the supplied link for the PDF above to confirm!

Nice to see a good turnout, and a couple of boardsies at the lunchtime cycle today. Good fun! Now to read my Cycling in Dublin paper over lunch. :)

That was a quite sizeable peleton today, largest I've ever seen in person. Was waiting to cross the quays when the guards stopped trafic for the event. Didn't see any boards gear in the crowd though.

    Started thinking about prison-uniformed flash mob :D for Varadkar’s talk (9:20, here)…

    but then I saw
Full fee €100 (Early Bird rates of €50 were available until 08/June)

Concession €20 (OAP, student, member of Dublin Cycling Campaign)
    :(

Never heard anything about this from the club.

But you might be interested in taking the son along to this:
