lads recently did good job in cleaning my road bike cassette and chain and then applied some lube and it all looked great but after first spin after job chain was black looking again and very messy ,think I may have put on too much lube ,is there any guide as to how much lube to apply and best way to apply .i was using a fenwick lube (redish color)

That's a fairly light lube as far as I know so it shouldn't 'gum up' too much. One small drop in each link is loads, spin it round a few times to distribute it and then give it a good wipe with a dry cloth to get rid of the excess. To be honest, I don't have the patience for meticulously oiling each link so I generally give a light drizzle while spinning the chain fairly briskly and then wipe.

    Don't oil the cassette.

I dont use a specific chain lube,
So cant speak about your Fenwick lube
I am of the "use little and often" school of thought when lubing the drive train components,
I find that TF2 teflon spray to be pretty good, similar to GT85 and some other products......Available in most bike shops,
My chain, gear changes etc.. looking and working very well after hundreds of kms with a little regular lubing.........
P.S. I always make sure to lube the drive train if I have been out in the rain.............

If the cartridge isn't pierced it'll be grand, if it is, I wouldn't like to be relying on it at the side of the road...
