Lost music files.

    Hoping someone can help!

My current set up is a MacMini with all my media on a Nas.

I updated iTunes last week, and sometimes after an update iTunes resets the filepath to the default folder. Normally there is no hassle, I just change it back to point to the Nas and hit OK.

Its then usually asks "Do you want iTunes to organise files..." or something to that effect. After clicking OK, it does a quick scan of the files and everything works fine and nothing changes.

This time I obviously didn't read the option box properly because when it started the scan it seemed to be taking ages. I realised then it was trying to move all the files from the Nas to the Mac.

So I stopped the process before much damage was done. So far I’ve found 2 albums that were affected, where it shows an "!" and says the file can't be found.

The thing is I can't find the missing files anywhere. Are they as good as gone or is there a hidden location somewhere where the Mac would copy them to temporarily?

I've read that in older versions of MacOS, it used to copy & delete, and that if something interrupted the process it was tough luck. But I believe this has changed in newer versions of the OS?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Try searching for them using Spotlight.

Try searching for them using Spotlight.

I've tried using spotlight alright but nothing is showing up. I need to mess around with it again later as I don't think I had the search options set correctly.

On the Get Info panel its giving a path to where it thinks the file is, but that folder is not actually there.

    Its not looking good.
