remote locking? is there an imobilizer on it?

i was quoted 100 for a non remote key and 180 for a remote key fro a 04 mondeo from my local locksmith. a key that just openes the doors/boot/bonnet cost me 15.

As above, or thereabouts. About 6 years ago a remote C-Max key set me back €150 approx. Dealt with a Ford Dealer at the time.

Central locking and immobilizer on it now alright! Any idea what info I need to give them so that I don't have to call someone out and I can just get a key replacement? Kicking myself at the moment :(

Is it one of those new style keys with buttons?

If its the old style standard key (With a Red patch on top) You can get one for €40... Get the key code from a Ford dealer and get a key cutter to do it and swap the little thing in the key (Under that red tab)

No buttons on it, think it's one of the old ones, if it's €40 that'd be great, I'll call the Ford dealer in the morning and keep ye updated!

I think the dealer needs photo ID and the log book/VRC for the car before they will cut a key.

Just get the key number from Ford and get another key cutter/lock smith to do it.

IIRC Ford tried to charge me €80 but I got another shop to do it for €40.

Called up Ford and they said they have to program the key, and I have to get the car over there some way myself.

It's coming to about 150EUR so far, if I get the car key code would it still work if I go to a key cutter instead? 150 seems like an awful lot

This would be my luck. Called into Ford dealer there, they said that no key code was given, and that I have to call up the crowd that I bought the car from orginally, and they have closed down :( Fúckkkkkk!!!!!!

    There's a UK chain called Timpsons, http://www.timpson.co.uk/locate
Don't seem to operate in Ireliand but have branches in the North. They were able to cut and programme a new key for my wife's Ka by reading the code from her remaining key. The key they produced looks different from the Ford key but it does work. About £45.
NB, that is old style Ka key, no remote, no buttons. I assume RFID chip.

ford should be able to get you one from the vin/chassie number

Car was imported, no record of a key number on the records, place where I got it from has closed down unfortunately.

they still should be able to cut it from the vin number

My mum locked her keys in the booth of her 04 Focus and could not find the spare key
I phoned the dealer who sold the car, they cut me a basic key which would only open the doors for €9

They say it has to be reprogrammed, etc...

If its the old style key, it doesn't need programming. There's a chip under the red part (Looks like a long fuse) and once that's transfered to the newly cut key it'll work. Had similar problems with a Fiesta :)
