Maybe I'm getting a bit paranoid with Ryanair .... but i presume there is no rule about a carrying both mine and childs hand luggage on board . i.e. have to carry your own bag?
Child has paid full fare so entitled to hand luggage.

Nope, you'll have to put the child into one of the bags. ;)

Only kidding. If the child has paid a fare as you say, then its no problem for you to carry their bag on their behalf.

As always with Ryanair, make sure the bags don't exceed the permited dimensions and weights.

Agree. And if your child has a much loved cuddly toy that he like to carry around with him, put it into his/her bag, or at least make sure that there is room for it to be squished into the bag at the last minute. When I was coming back from the Heineken Cup final last month, a young lad in front of me had a rugby ball with him that was actually one of the balls kicked into touch during the game itself. He was beside himself with excitement over it, but he had to carry to as it wouldn't fit into his backpack. Was he allowed take it onto the plane with him? Was he hell !:mad::mad:

Surely they didn't actually stop him from bringing it on the plane? It would have just been charged as a second piece of hand luggage?

They did stop him from taking it on board. His father refused to pay the the checked bag fee. The poor wee lad was in tears. Luckily, another passenger stepped up to the plate just before the bag was tossed in the bin, and offered up space in his hand luggage to take the ball. When we landed in Dublin, he stood up before the "unfasten seat belt" sign came on, took the ball out of the bag, and threw it back it to the little guy in the back of the plane. The whole plane cheered !

Just to add to this that if the child is under the age of two years of age then they do not get their own seat and do not get a carry on allowance, but they are allowed a buggy.
