Country style Book Shelf

I am looking for a short enough book shelf to put up in a child's bedroom to hold a nice number of books and few other bits & pieces!

I want the shelf to have an old traditional look about it as it is a rennovated farmhouse.

The furniture in the room is dark walnut so I would love something in that colour too.

Would appreciate any good recommendations, Thanks

I can do that for you no problem at all if you would like?

Pine stains well - easiest way to get a match to dark furniture. It machines well and for shelving it has the best weight to tensile strength of any available timbers. The shelf span should be no more than 3 feet for a 1 inch plank. It is also cheap and can be made to look "rustic".
If the shelves are free standing then they have to be fixed or tethered to the wall - always with children as they dont see shelves, they see a ladder.
