    ladies and gentlemen,

firstly, if you could ignore my ignorance on this...here is what we would like to do.

we have sky hd (thinking of dumping it tbh). recently got a tv with saorview built in upstairs. would like to provide a feed to the upstairs tv. the lnb has a quad box on it with 2 free slots and 2 used which i guess is what allows me record on the sky box(?). i have tried to educate myself on this but would like your views on this as i have only started...

if i ran a cable from one of the free slots on the lnb into the bedroom and into the back of the tv...would that work? would i get all the free channels including rte hd, bbc hd etc or do i need something else for hd?

also i would guess i have to create a cable or would you recommend buying a completed one? i guess i need about 15 metres (want to go in via the attic) and do a clean install.

ps...related (sort of). if i got a tv with saorview built in in the living room and ran a cable from the final slot on the lnb (2 for sky hd, 1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs), could i have freeview on that tv as well via the built in saorview box and still have sky hd ? (i know its redundant but more curious than anything and trying to educate myself a little).

You're on the wrong track I'm afraid, Saorview is a Terrestrial service and requires an Aerial not a Satellite dish.

Saorview needs a UHF aerial, it doesn't work from a satellite dish. You need a satellite receiver at each tv for the UK Channels.

Freeview is the UK's equivalent of Ireland's Saorview and only available if you have an aerial pointed at a UK terrestrial transmitter if you live close to the border or certain parts of the east coast.

The satellite equivalent is Freesat which requires a Freesat receiver and connection to the satellite dish.

You can buy the length of cable required and fit the correct connector at each end.

bugger....i assumed since rte is on sky it was also available that way....

    thanks for the help...

    sorry so many terms

...so freesat would that work with the spare lnb ports and the description above, ie running a cable from the spare slots?

thanks again for the education and the responses...

    Yes but no Irish channels.
