Looking to change PA system...

Hey lads, would love some opinions from ye...

We're looking for a change! We're currently using a EV Deltamax setup, 4 tops and 4 scoop bins. 3 amps into a DBX driverack. If you know the Deltamax setup you'll know is a class sounding setup with massive bang, but.... heavy!!

We're looking to down size to a tidy setup, but still have plenty there, enough to do a 50 to 250 people room. Our current setup is running at 6.2k watts but its never needed to be honest. We're looking to get something with a good thumping bottom end and clear high end. We were looking at active boxes as they would be great on for smaller gigs, ie using just the tops, 750w tops or something like that. So say, 1k watt bins and 750 watt tops, something in or around that kinda setup. And we're kinda looking to move away from the Driverack/processor setup, more a plug and play setup would be ideal.

Budget would be around the the €7.5k mark, we're in the process of tryin to sell our gear at the minute on adverts. We are looking to buy just PA, not monitors as we're sorted that way.

So, please suggest what yas think we should have a look at. Db? RCF? JBL? DYNACORD?

Band consists of drums, bass, guitars x2, lead and backing vocals.

    Thanks lads!

Keep an eye on Adverts - there are quite a few P5s changing hands these days.
    Might do the job?

Why those numbers specifically? Watts merely tells you how much power a Speaker uses and nothing about how loud it is or how good it sounds.

A high end 250W box would sound better than an entry level 1000W speaker.

The numbers game is played by Behringers of this world who know that bigger appears better on a spec sheet. The end user is usually fixated with having tons of watts even if it sounds like garbage.

You then have speaker efficiency ratings that are skewed at the best of times, truth of the matter is many spec sheets are at best 'misleading' and, at worst, utter spoof.

Hey Paul. We had a P5 before, great setup but we'd be looking a bit more thump. Cheers tho for the input!

Savman@ Yea, well i understand all that too. What setup would you recommend then? Again we'd be looking that chest thump bottom end but with flexibility also to do smaller gigs.

I think you'll find that the Dynacords and RCFs will eat the HK Actor for breakfast. I owned and ran an Actor rig for 3yrs btw, it's a very intelligent and well designed system that's very flexible, really nice Tops (1.4" horn in them I believe) but the Subs are found wanting and run out of steam very easily.

What about the QSC kw setup, 15s with the 18s? Or the EV Live X gear?

Had jbl mrx subs and vrx subs run through qsc amps. Solid stuff.

I now use a rcf active rig. Light and lots of punch for a small system. Been using it for a rock band.

RCF, which model? Is it the 4pro stuff, or the NX stuff? We were looking at that, haven't heard it yet, but from what your saying thats exactly what we're looking for.
