Are you sure it's the shorts? It could be anything, new tubes/tires, are you putting higher pressure into your wheels etc?

You could always just replace the chamois as it'd be a lot cheaper than new shorts.

I find bib shorts a lot better, you don't have to keep pulling them up if the slip down, people behind you don't have to see your hairy crack etc, no unexpected cold breeze down there :P

I'm not too experienced but I wouldn't put it down to the shorts. Is it only in your trunk you're feeling it, not in your hands at all? I would check out both wheels first. Have you made any changes to your bike fit lately?

    Ste,

Can you give us more details on replacing the chamois.

I have a pair of new Nalini bib shorts with a leather chamois that the wife washed on a high temp and then left on a radiator for three days. One ride later and the chamois disintegrated.

+1 I'd be interested in that too. I have lovely unpadded tights and a spare pad but how to attach it to the stretchy fabric?

As a rule of thumb once the person behind can see your hole they are done ! If its wet then they are almost done......

I'd look into this. Did you make a big change too quickly, or maybe just the wrong change, etc. Tyres sound ok to me.

I recently chucked out a pair of Diavalo shorts that I had since I was 15, making them 19 years old. Were still in perfectly good nick but unfortunately were the size of hot pants.

It's possible to do, but very difficult. You'd definitely need to be competent with a decent sewing machine, I had a family member who's a seamstress do it for one of the cheap Chinese HTC knockoffs and it worked great.
