Are you sure they are stray and not just belonging to someone else in the area who might have outdoor cats? And there is no RSPCA in Ireland, it's the ISPCA but you would be better off contact a local rescue if they are actually strays as they would probably be given rescue space and rehomed.

If you ask on Feral cats Ireland, they might be able to advise on a rescue in your area. Good luck, its nice to see that you're trying to help them. There are so many abandoned cats out there now.

If they are feral a rescue probably wont take them as they will just end up being put down.
If they are stray, but not aggresive, then really its a case of working with the cats to get them tame. Which involves a lot of patience, food and more patience.

Were currently working with a stray who lives in our front garden. A rescue helped us trap her and get her neutered and checked over by a vet.
When she came back we had her in the house to begin with to try and get her tame, but she hated it so we decided to let her back outside and just take it slow.

Rescues dont have the time or resources to take in every stray cat and try and tame it, its best if you give it a go. If they dont come round, then its best to just keep feeing them, have them neutered and let them live their lives in the wild.

Having them around will stop other cats making home in the area, and if they are neutered you wont get any babies!

Thats not true about rescues not taking them, they take them and neuter then re home to a farm or stables as pest control

There are quite a few independent rescues around the country and generally they will do their best to help. I absolutely agree that many are inundated with abandoned and feral cats, particularly at this time of year. I would always advise people to see if they can find a rescue in their area. At least if the rescue can help with trap neuter and return, you will keep the number of cats to 4 and not have multiple litters per cat per year. I find a lot of information on Feral Cat Ireland website. They aren't a charity, the website shares info for rescues and someone might be able to help. Many rescues will help stray and feral cats.

That normally only happens though if the cat is a stray, not a true feral. It also depends on the rescue, some of the larger well known ones wont take them, whereas a smaller or cat dedicated rescue will.

My point was that its not a simple case of ring the SPCA and the cats will be collected.

A stray cat that is friendly towards humans, even if not tame is much easier to rehome to a farm or livery. Its a lot harder to do that if its a true feral, as they wont want to be anywhere near humans, and would be better off neutered and then returned to their territory, just leave food out for them.
