I am wondering about who would be the first person traveled to Mongolia? If you know anyone who went and when, please let know. Would there be any explorer who went to this corner of the world in early 20th century?

    Thanks.

I think Dervla Murphy went there at one stage.

I'm curious as to what you mean by the first Irish person in Mongolia. You've indicated a specific time frame (early 20th century), but it's quite possible that there were Irish people passing through there before that time.

Are you interested in Irish people who were there in the early 20th century, or are you interested in the first Irish people there ? I imagine there were Irish people there when the British went wandering around the region as part of empire building long before that.

At a guess I'd say it would've been an Irish person who was in the British army. I'm sure they ventured in at some stage

Some of the ink used in the book of Kells came from Afghanistan. So trade routes were quite extensive even as far back as 6th century. The first Irish person to travel to Mongolia could have been just as far back and would most likely have been a merchant or religious person.
