I test drove a 2008 mazda 6 2L diesel car in a garage yesterday and am considering buying it. However, I don't know anyone who has one and said I'd check boards to see if people have good/bad things to say about them. There seems to be alot of negative comments here about them. Can someone please advise of good/bad experiences with 2008 2L ones. I have read on honest john about engine problems, DPF problems, what is DPF?). I don't have any car knowledge.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You have to watch the oil and make sure it doesn't rise above the X on the dipstick. There are horror stories about the Diesel engines, I'd buy one personally, but only if I was doing decent long journeys regularly. For city driving forget it.

Mazda 6 is a lovely car, but I would not go near diesel ones. Mazda still can't put shiet together when it comes to diesel engines.

My mam's got an 09 1.8l Petrol one. It's dead reliable, so far anyway and compared to everything else I've driven, it's a dream.
For long journeys the petrol engine gives ~40-45mpg she says, a little less around town but still high 30's to 40.

I'd have a good think about the petrol before buying the diesel, far more reliable and in the long run and to buy, it'll work out much cheaper.
