Slick tires on a wet oval = disaster!

Oval tracks are banked; even on wet tires they wouldnt be able to race on them. They only race two road courses a year so they dont bother brining in wet weather tires for 2 races out of 36. Although the Nationwide series trialed wet tires in a race in Montreal a couple of years ago.

The cars are difficult enough to control in the dry as it is...

They did run a wet race once in Canada, it wasn't an oval though. The clip-on wipers stopped working on some cars so drivers had to squeegee the windscreens. The wet tyres had only been tested once, in suzuka in 1999 or so. Commentators kept going on about it being a "historic occasion".
