Toilet waste / stack problem

    Hi All,

Am I right in saying that with a toilet waste pipe, it should fall by approx 25mm per metre, on the run to the stack?

I basically have a toilet that's not always emptying correctly (been like this a few years apparently), when I looked at the run to the stack part of it is level and rising very slightly. So need to modify it so the fall is correct. I can't believe that anyone in the right mind would leave it like this

I've attached a picture of the stack, what I want to do is combine the waste pipes from the sink & bath and reduce the height the height of the T piece with the toilet pipe coming into it to give me the fall required. Basically I need to remove one of the 4" to 1.5" adapters. These adapters seem to be about 6", so i might have to do a little messing to get the level correct.

Or is there a better way of doing this?

    Thanks

If you replace the existing 4" T with one that has a shorter radius you might get the desired fall.

Remove the feed in from the sink & separate T piece and replace it with this, to drop the toilet pipe down and give the required fall...

The problem your going to have is them boss tees that are fitted are glued fittings , and the 4" t-piece is also glued into the top of the boss taking your sink , which means tou are going to have to scrap the whole lot

Good point, I don't mind scrapping the one below it too, just once it will work correctly.

I could probably replace both of them boss connectors with one of these

And bring the bath / sink in at the same level to the stack. This should give the required drop in height too.

I dont knowif this helps but I had a similar probelem a few months back.

Toilets in both the bathroom and ensuite wouldnt flush propperly.

The fall of the external waste pipe was all wrong and in fact the water was flowing back on itself.:(

Any,got a propper plumber in and he had it fixed in a matter of a few hours, after having to take apart everything and redo all the joints.

He mentioned something about a 25mm fall for every meter of pipe.

Both toilets now flush like never before, thank god for my sake.:D

Yea pretty much the same problem here. It looks like the toilet was moved to the other side of the bathroom (3 to 4 meters), but the stack was never modified. So the height that the toilet feeds into the stack is the same height as when it was beside it.

The only complication here is that the stack is in behind the bath, so I might have to take that out for access.

Well heres hoping you have easy access to under your bath??

The tiler tiled in the bath in my bathroom and never left an access panel,as the plumber and tiler never consulted with each other.

I had to do it myself and cut out an access panel, after I asked the tiler to come back and sort the problem, but he failed to return.:(

I do have access, but it would be a stretch. I think the bath is coming out for this job, as I want to do it right ;)
