Lidl are selling a spotting scope this upcoming Thursday and I'm wondering would it be good for plane spotting in the sky?

It's not on the Lidl website so I'll give you the details

    - 200m eye piece 20x-60x
    - 360 degrees rotatable scope
    - Table tripod included with pan handle.
    - magnification 20x-60x
    - Fields of view 29m/1000m (2+20x)
    - up to 60x zoom

    Price: 25 Euro

It says it's suitable for bird watching but what about plane spotting in the sky?

Also this is just for anybody who has expertise in this area :pac:

Not bad at the price, but avoid looking at the sun. I'd say not the newspaper, but that's also good advice.

Do you think it's worth buying? Or are just the same as binoculars?

Leaving aside the issue of quality, that level of magnification is probably too much if you want to track a moving object.

I have one of these from the last time they sold them. While trying to focus one day a washer on the back of the eye-piece fell off, and fell onto to mirror, covering it with grease. The mirror is inaccessible to clean, as far as I can tell the body is glued...

Bring it back and have it exchanged for a new one.

Edit: I've found a better one anyway, I don't think the one in Lidl sounds that good.

Disagree. 200mm on a camera leaves me wanting more magnification!

I agree but there is a lot of difference between the handling of a camera versus an unwieldy spotting scope.

Got one last time on sale and returned it. I wanted it for high level aircraft but it was not suitable at all. Bought Praktica W20x50ZCF binoculars instead in Argos and am very happy with them also good for all round viewing. No sure if it is in current catologue.
