    Hi everyone,

My partner and I are getting married this August. we are looking for a DJ for the afters. We are looking for a DJ who would have an eclectic mix of music, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and alternative. no cheesy modern chart music or stuff like Rock the Boat, YMCA etc. the wedding will be in central Dublin. would really appreciate it if anyone had any recommendations, thanks guys.

We used Tommy Greene from Mobile DJs, couldn't recommend him highly enough, he played a great mix and the dancefloor was packed for the night. The main thing to remember with your DJ is make sure you tell them the stuff that you like/don't like, most of them will ask you if you have any songs you particularly do or don't want to hear.

My brother was at a wedding and said David Baker was excellent. He had request cards at all tables and he was very good for entertaining the crowd. He actually got wedding dj of the year 2 years in a row.We tried to get him but he was gone for our dates :(.:(But he was a gent to deal with and recommended other djs for us.

    Heres his website http://www.davidbaker.ie/

Not to take away from the fact he's a damn fine DJ but mind me asking where did he get wedding DJ of the year?

As far as I know there are no independent awards for wedding suppliers.

Ah ok, thanks. FYI There's a couple of sites out there doing the same "awards".
    1. Try and see does anyone ever win one of those awards who doesn't actually pay for advertising with the site that's running the award.
    2. Its an exercise every year for providers to see who's got the most facebook friends to vote for them.

And again, not saying any of the "winners" are not good at what they do just to putting it in unbiased context of what the title of best at from these sites actually means.

Its kind of like Dunnes stores holding an awards ceremony saying Dunnes stores sausages are voted best sausages in Ireland by all the eaters of sausages who shop in Dunnes.

    nice sausages though.

Sorry I dont mean to hijack this thread but I got a phone call from dj Benen Tierney last night. He is seems like a really nice guy and had alot of good ideas, also he came across as very passionate about his job.
He quoted me 650 euros for 5 hours, not bad If he is very good but I was quoted only 500 euros for another dj (jason shaughnessy)with a good reputation.
Anyone ever being at a wedding where he was djing?

You wouldnt go wrong with either of them, the problem is theres no authorative scale for wedding providors. Take DJs for example. Both those guys you mention would really know their business. If you asked anyone who was at a function where they were playing you'd hear "great, brilliant, fantastic" for both. You wont hear "Well Ben was 8.4 out of 10 on the Official irish DJ rating scale and Jason was 8.1".

If youre not going to go and view them (which Id recommend), accept theyre both good (which they are) and just go with gut instinct after speaking to them.

Hey thanks for some great advice there.Never actually thought about that (ratings score). That would be a great idea.I will probably try and make It to one of there weddings,we just dont have much time for a decison. My gut is telling me Beren but that might be because I was talking to him on the phone. The only negative with Beren is hes 150 euro more expensive and we are on a very tight budget. He did sound like he would be neogitable on the price anyways.
    Thanks for your help:D

Find out what each guy is doing and bringing for that price if you can.
One guy mightn't have bassbins which are needed for the larger venues or the best lighting to suit your venue. If you require any specific types of music do they have knowledge about it. Find out about backup equipment and if they do uplighting or photo slideshow there might be a better deal to be done. Jason mightn't move from 500 whereas Benen would probably come down closer to Jason's price. Compare apples with apples!
