MPEG4 STB box not finding any channels

Hi, I bought an MPEG4 set top box for DVB-T channels.

I have an indoor antenna and the box isn't finding any channels. I suspect it's because the country is set to England, and there is no option for Ireland...

I saw that it has manual scanning so does anyone know if by changing the frequencies I could get the channels to come up?

    Thanks.

If you're actually at your given location, Saorview will be on UHF channel 54 (738 mHz).

    .

You sure it's actually compatible at all?

Why isn't it a Saorview box?

UK only uses MPEG4 for "Freeview HD"

Or it is a Freeview box / MPEG2 Tuner that can play the MPEG4 Divx files (not the same as MPEG4 on a tuner)?

At the first test it was facing the window towards a house.

I have tried scanning channel 54 (double checking that the frequency matches and the bandwidth is set to 8M) and nothing came up.

I will test around at other areas and will report back... :(

It's a TNT HD box from France so it should work no problem. Searching that on boards.ie has shown that people have gotten those boxes to work :s

the problem is almost definitely your 'indoor' aerial.

Indeed it is. I brought the box outside with the antenna, plugged it into the car's TV screen and at some antenna positions the channels worked fine. I must look for a better antenna :L

No, you need one on the wall, roof or chimney.

Unless you are going to use a large outdoor aerial on a stand in the room.

A €54 indoor aerial is little better than a €6 model.

The TNT HD boxes will do the basics. But they are not fully compatible. The problem of no channels or intermittent is only reliably solved by a sensibly mounted outdoor aerial, outdoors, or sometimes in the attic.

Indeed that's what I will do. I will get a proper antenna for the roof.

Originally I got the STB and the indoor antenna to use in France to watch Euro 2012, but as it seems to work fine in Ireland too, I might as well take advantage of it :)
