Car won't start - Is it the starter?

Hi guys,

My car won't start the key is turning but just not ticking over when starting.

I can think of two options, i know i was low on petrol - the red light was on but wan't on for too long. Could i be out of petrol? Its never happened me before.

Is it the starter? It went on me before a couple of years ago and seems to be something similiar.

Its an Opel Astra.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Going to call breakdown assistance next week.

Does the car try to turnover at all when you turn the key or do you just get a clicking sound? If that's the case it could be a flat battery.
Even with no petrol the car would still turnover

Any chance you left lights on?

It should still turnover even with no petrol. I would say either starter motor or battery, if it starts on a pushstart you will have a better idea.

Don't think its the battery.

Jump start it maybe? Just to test it.

My Astra does this when its parked up hill and nearly empty, needs me to pump the accelerator while turning the key to get it going.
