I have noticed lately with my Saorview approved Techwood tv the Irish channels are dodgy at best however the BBC,UTV,Channel4 etc are all perfect at the same time. Does anybody have any explanation for this?
I find myself having to watch Euro finals on UTV.

What is your location? I presume all your channels are being delivered via terrestrial transmissions.

Have you any idea which transmitters you're receiving from & what kind of aerial system you have?

Is your aerial amplified ? You could be overloading from some source but knowing the tranmitters ( ie location) helps narrow down suspects.

I see from previous posts you may be in the Westmeath area.

How many aerials do you use to receive the Irish and Uk channels? Can you post the UHF channel nos./frequencies of the analogue and digital channels you receive via the aerial.

As we live in Westmeath I assume we receive from Cairn Hill. We have one roof top aerial which we always had to receive before Saorview came out. Also have a booster box in attic.
The Techwood tv is in living room we also have a Walker set top box in sitting room directly behind living room tv, both tv share same cable from aerial but. However the Walker set top box doesnt have the same problems as Techwood tv

Cairn Hill Saorview is on UHF channel 47 (682 mHz). You should be able to check if your receivers are tuned to this (maybe via 'info').

Just to be sure, by 'one rooftop aerial', do you actually mean a single aerial or maybe one installation with perhaps 2 actual aerials on it?

I know in the midlands it often is just is a single large aerial pointing north for the UK channels & this same aerial has no trouble receiving the powerful transmissions from Cairn Hill.

Westmeath is single aerial pointing north usually as Peter said, sometimes even on a pole in the garden and wire stayed. Could be picking up something coming from the south ( on the back of the aerial) but the transmitters all look too small and too far away on that channel.

    http://www.saortv.info/terrestrial-saorview/transmitters/

So if you turned off the booster or bypassed it does Cairn Hill come back while you lose UK TV, this implies the interference is coming in on Ch47 and is being amplified by your setup.

Ch47 is used by a transmitters in Newry and one in Belcoo which are inline Divis and Brougher ...the two main NI transmitters. This begs the question which one are you using now, Brougher will be much higher power after switchover for example and you could lose it if you have it now ( overamplification) . Ch 47 will continue in use from NI locations too, see here

Also begs the question of where in westmeath, west or east.

Where is the cable split that feeds the 2 TVs, at the booster/amp or further down the line closer to the TVs?

Have you tested the signal at the Techwood TV point with the Walker STB?

Check the connections from the cable split to the Techwood TV.

Sorry now, what do you mean 'dodgy'? I find with mine that at least every half hour, it freezes, skips a few seconds and then resumes, I thought it was just the tele!

If it's a power supply for a masthead amp on a single aerial, they'll just lose everything.

Plenty of these installations use a high gain group A aerial for Brougher & a 10 element contract for CH, often practically pointing the same direction.

They would point the same direction in west westmeath, ie Cairn Hill and Brougher are in line with each other. I think that it is possibly not worth fixing until Brougher increases power in October and the amplification issue is then dealt with in one operation including not amplifying (bypassing) ch 47 if need be.

The booster is in the attic he said. Photo of aerial (s?) would be a help :)

Think it sorted now, it wasnt tuned into channel 47 think it was on 37 or something. I also turned booster off for few seconds.:)

It's highly unlikely you picked up any Saorview transmission other than Cairn Hill (certainly nothing on ch. 37) & it won't be bothered by the outputs of low-powered NI relay transmitters either.
