Spilled beer on Macbook - repairs Cork

Spilled a small amount of beer on the keyboard of my macbook pro. It's working fine, the space bar might be a small but sticky but not a while lot. I'd still prefer to get it opened up and cleaned. I looked at iFixit and it's beyond me to be honest. I'd prefer someone who knows what they're doing.

Anyone recommend anyone in Cork? The only place I've been before is stream solutions who did a good job on a warranty repair. Would they even do the job?

    Thanks

    Stop using it immediately!!

from: SPILLED LIQUIDS ON YOUR LAPTOP? DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN IT ON BEFORE READING THIS!
Okay, this happens quite a lot so I figured i'd throw this up on the forum so people would see it and know how to react if it happens to them.

    1. Okay, if you spill any fluid on your laptop first thing is first. POWER OFF THE MACHINE IMMEDIATELY.

    2. Remove the power supply(ie plug), and battery immediately.

    3. Dry off the machine as much as possible. Get a cloth and wipe the machine down. If you can, open the machine as much as possible and dry the machine.

    4. Once the machine is as dry as you can get it. Place it in a hotpress for a WEEK. You read right. 1 whole week. Do not attempt to power it on. Leave it as open/disassembled as possible in a hotpress for a week.

4a. If you want to be super cautious you could get a container to place the laptop in, and cover it in UNCOOKED rice. This will absorb the moisture.

You can also use methylated spirits to clean the laptop if anything other than water was spilled. Use cotton buds to clean any effected areas. This is something i have never attempted myself, but i've read about it online.

I've spilled wine on my and it still works fine a year and a half later. I'd recommend taking the back cover off the thing and leaving it in the hotpress for a while. It worked for me anyway and the smell went away after a little while. However if you're not exactly strapped for cash i'd say hand it in to be fully opened and cleaned.

Try: i-electron. I've dealt with them in the past for iPad screen replacements, they're brilliant. They also provide a water damage repair service.

Or you could use Isopropyl alcohol. Spray/pour onto the keyboard, press the sticky keys a few times then shake of the excess liquid. Leave for a while for the Isopropyl alcohol to evaporate ( leave upsidedown ). Do all this with all power off.

Ya I was tempted to leave it but it's a bit sticky now to be honest. I'd be happier to get it cleaned. Was thinking of spraying ipa into the keyboard alright but I'd probably prefer to get it opened up and cleaned properly. I'll give I electron a ring tomorrow. Thanks.

Just had time to have a look there now. I removed a few keys for a look and I can't find any evidence at all of any liquid. The stickiness is almost completely gone now. I'm going to get a can of IPA later, remove all the keys and give everything a good clean. I think that will do it. It was only a very small amount of liquid and I turned it upside down within 2 seconds.

Be grand, I spelled wine on mine a few times and it runs perfectly, the wine was dripping through the laptop but dried off in 24hrs and the thing is fine now. It just missed the moisture strip too so when the HD cable failed they took it in no questions asked.
