My son in law recently found an old black and tan war of independence medal (boxed and named with a presidential paper)belonging to his granduncle Denis Hegarty. The only reference I can find for the Cork area are to one lad in 3rd brigade and one to a lad in 1st brigade. As the fellow in 3rd brigade was killed in 1921 and as the medal has no bar I assume it was the Denis Hegarty in 1st brigade. The only reference I can find to him a brief mention as an intelligence officer and a photo with a name that might be him.any one recommend a good place to search as I an not wise in the way of interweb searching.:D
    regards
    Patrick

what about contacting The Defence Forces at the Curragh. they should have something. maybe talk to the Press Officer. the bar usually signified combat experience.
