Hi, I am in the process of setting up my home network, I have a pc and laptop both on vista home basic, when on my pc uner network I can see the laptop but when I click to access it, I get the error message,\\LAPTOP is not accessible. YOu might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Have googled and googled and am unable to find a solution, can anyone help?

Getting networking working correctly on a home network with MS basic can be a tricky. At the very least, it is inconsistent.

    Couple of things to ensure:

Have a common username (and password) on both machines.
Get the wired connections working correctly before you put wireless into the mix.
All firewalls are turned off (make sure you are disconnected from the internet while you do this). This is far from ideal, but once you can connect on both machines, you can then go about sorting it out.
Restarting machines when networking changes occur can often solve connection issues. Then and only when you have the firewalls turned back on, you can reconnect to the internet.

    Is the laptop password protected?

Have you actually turn on file sharing (i.e. shared a folder)

Create a user on the laptop with exactly the same name as the username on your pc. Make the password for this user the exact same as it is on your pc. Ensure the user has rights you need, in the case i guess make the user an administrator on the laptop.
