Auditing in the US

    Hi All,

    Has anyone here worked in Audit in the US? What are the main differences in the workload/hours worked/pressure etc? Would be particularly interested in hearing about anyone who has worked as an audit senior in one of the Big4 over there.

    What would you say the main differences are and was it good experience?

    In a nutshell: Longer hours, less holidays, better pay, much more stringent re auditing standards and you'll learn more re financial standards too.

    But it is seen as good for your career if you were to come back to the same Big 4 firm in Ireland

    How much longer should I expect the hours be? Would people generally have time to do something after work or is it literally constant work during the week with your weekends off?

    If you want a good work-life balance, then look to Europe, not the US for that. I work in financial services area, but I can tell you that I have never seen a member of the the big 4 team that does our annual audit on site before 8:00am or after 5:00pm in the evening...

    Here in Switzerland we clock a 42.5 hour week and that is it, at a push we might do say 30 hours OT during the year and that is compensated or paid at 150%. Regular OT is considered a negative, as it suggest that you are incompetent since you can't get your work done in the normal time!
